M94 - spiral galaxy

The galaxy M94 in the constellation Canis lies about 16 million light-years from Earth. In a small telescope it is visible as a compact nebulous object. At first glance it appears inconspicuous, but its core is surrounded by a bright ring in which new stars are formed extremely quickly. Astronomers call this region a starburst ring. It is sometimes called "Cat's Eye" because of its appearance.
